Our Votes for the 2013 Academy Awards

DEXTER'S PREDICTIONS
As you can see from my list, I'm really partial to Lincoln.  That's probably because he loved cats.  Did you know he was the first president to bring his son's cat, Tabby, to the White House?  My other favorite was Argo because it was so
suspenseful.  As for acting, Anne Hathaway (former Catwoman) made me tear up a bit when she sang.  I'm predicting that my list will be the most accurate!

Best Picture: Argo
Actor: Daniel Day Lewis
Actress: Jennifer Lawrence
Supporting Actor: Tommy Lee Jones
Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway
Director: Steven Spielberg
Original Screenplay: Django Unchained
Adapted Screenplay: Lincoln
Film Editing: Argo
Cinematography: Life of Pi
Production Design: Lincoln
Costume Design: Anna Karenina

NEIL'S FAVORITES
It was a great year for movies, and because of that a lot of really good films and performances were overlooked by the Academy.  One of my favorites was Django Unchained—a controversial, but thoroughly entertaining movie.  Quentin Tarantino is the only director that can deliver some of the most gruesome realistic scenes and still make them watchable for a wimp like me.  Although the movie was honored with 5 nominations, I felt that acting nods for Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio should have been included.  Child performances were also overlooked as in the case of Life of Pi, The Impossible, and Les Miserables.  Those accomplishments MADE those movies.  The scene that captured Best Picture for me was from Argo when the hostages were driving in a van through the crowded market in Tehran.  At that moment, I felt as if I were actually there!  That should have guaranteed a win for director Ben Affleck, if only he were nominated.

Best Picture: Argo
Actor: Daniel Day Lewis
Actress: Jennifer Lawrence
Supporting Actor: Robert De Niro
Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway
Director: Ang Lee
Original Screenplay: Django Unchained
Adapted Screenplay: SIlver Lining Playbook
Film Editing: Argo
Cinematography: Life of Pi
Production Design: Life of Pi
Costume Design: Anna Karenina

ERIC'S PICKS
This was a pretty great year for movies so I'm spreading my picks around.  Two sure things - Daniel Day Lewis and Adele will win.  I'm surprised that The Avengers, Skyfall, and Batman were shut out of the major categories since they were big box office and critically acclaimed.  We're in a period of great acting and I wish that some of those categories could stretch or contract, depending on the number of performances deserving of acclaim.  As for the directing category, that's been raked over the coals by others, but who are the members nominating the directors?  It's as bad as the process for Foreign Language Film, which will be Amour this year.

Best Picture: Zero Dark Thirty
Actor: Daniel Day Lewis
Actress: Naomi Watts
Supporting Actor: Robert De Niro
Supporting Actress: Sally Field
Director: Ang Lee
Original Screenplay: Django Unchained
Adapted Screenplay: Lincoln
Film Editing: Argo
Cinematography: Life of Pi
Production Design: Lincoln
Costume Design: Anna Karenina
