A Hometown Pizza to Brag About…Dewey's

Entertainment in the Open Kitchen
Cincinnati has been a gourmet pizza town for several years now. When I first moved here, Trio and ZZ's were offering some out-of-the-box creations.  Then Dewey's opened on Oakley Square in 1998 and started a chain (no pun intended) of events that would leave a significant mark on the local pizza business.

We've been patrons since that first restaurant opened, visiting them all around the city.  They're consistent in their offerings and service.  After seeing a movie at the Kenwood Theatre recently, we dropped into the

Dewey's next door.  Carol had been visiting (and we had been eating out a lot) so we were in the mood for a lighter meal.  Sharing a Candied Walnut and Grape Salad got us started.  (That one is our favorite until the Harvest Salad comes on the menu in the Fall).  This time around it seemed a little light on the grapes and gorgonzola, but still satisfying with the citrus basil vinaigrette tossed throughout.  Next came our choice of pizza and we opted for a half Southwest BBQ Chicken with tender Amish chicken and the black bean corn salsa highlighting the flavors, along with a half of Billy Goat sans mushrooms to avoid allergies.  It's a white pizza with mozzarella and goat cheese topped with sun-dried tomatoes, green peppers, and fresh tomatoes.  All that atop a light thin crust made for some satisfied, but tired movie-goers.  And there was enough for another light meal the next day.  Always an added benefit!  Dewey's is also known for its micro brews on tap. The menu covers it all for a first-rate pizza parlor with inventive combinations using basic fresh ingredients throughout.  It's a comfortable updated version of a classic American hangout.

There was even enough for me—but I passed.
