Katalina's Cafe Corner

A little Victorian Village corner in Columbus with lively, local color and great edible fare

Dexter Checks Out the Chalk Board
The perfect formula for a coffee house, in my opinion, starts with a personality to emphasize its individuality and service that supports that quality.  Of course, the coffee must be great (something that's overlooked often times in the effort to
showcase free exchange programs and flavors-of-the-times).  Lastly, a substantial menu offering of eats that are exclusive to the house or patronizes local specialties is essential.  Katalina's Cafe Corner epitomizes those distinctions.

The Teeny, Tiny Space
Outdoor Terrace

We were there for lunch on a festival day in the Short North area.  It's hard to miss from the street with parking adjacent in a back lot and on the street.  The establishment itself is small.  Really small.  So tiny I'm not sure how they handle any type of crowd on a winter's day.  It appears more like a seasonal seaside venture.  But don't let that deter your visit.  There was ample room on the outside terrace and I can't help but imagine that they have an answer for my chilly weather lament.

Slow-Roasted Pork & Egg Breakfast Sandwich
Cuban Pressed "Mixto"
We both ordered Iced Coffee from the cooler that was robust without any bitterness, and a distinctive spice note that was possibly cinnamon.  It definitely played to Katalina's individual quality.  Eric had the Slow-Roasted Pork & Egg Breakfast Sandwich that paired the pork in a secret sauce with a fried egg, avocado, and roasted red pepper.  It was special and perfectly piled on thick sourdough.  Mine was the
Mixed Berry Cupcake and
Chocolate Bacon Bark

Cuban Pressed "Mixto" that substantiated their motto of "tradition with a twist".  For dessert, we couldn't resist the pretty Mixed Berry Cupcake that was on the countertop and the Chocolate Bacon Bark inside the display case.  Both were oozing with flavor, but the bark was superbly smooth and crispy.  All surpassed my expectations of a classic Coffee House.
